Welcome from the Rector

The Rev. Melissa SkeltonWelcome to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, an urban Anglo-Catholic parish where people are renewed for their daily life and work through worship, learning and life in community. We invite you to visit us on a Sunday, at one of our weekday masses or at an Evening or Morning Prayer service.

Some things that it might be helpful for you to know about us:

  • We’re a growing congregation. When you visit us you’re likely to find yourself in the company of other people who are new to St. Paul’s.

  • We’re a place of prayer where the senses are fully engaged in the worship of God. You will smell incense, hear beautiful music, experience silence and see people using gesture as a way to express the inexpressible during our liturgies.

  • We’re a place where ancient ritual speaks to the experience of contemporary life. You will (we hope) be struck by the grace of our liturgy and the relevance of our preaching to your life.

  • We’re urban and diverse—a little funky. You will see a diverse group of people at St. Paul’s, including children, in all styles of dress.

  • We are a place exploring how to enact compassion and justice locally and globally.

  • We’re friendly and will also try to respect your space. We will make every effort to welcome you and will try hard not to crowd you when you visit.

We’re thrilled that you’ve chosen to explore our website and hope to see you at St. Paul’s.

Mother Melissa Skelton
Rector, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church

Each of us has a story of finding our way to this household — an open, welcoming congregation of God’s people. We at St. Paul’s have found a spiritual home that resonates deeply in both mind and spirit. We have an abiding commitment to the saving love of Christ Jesus, without precondition, to all who come.

St. Paul’s invites you to experience the depth and power of the rich, ancient prayer, liturgy, and music in the Anglo-Catholic tradition of the Episcopal Church. We are a parish deeply committed to the beauty and profundity of the rituals, readings, prayers, and symbolic actions known as the “liturgy.” St. Paul’s has long been renowned for the care and solemn loveliness of its worship services. We engage all the senses; strive for beauty and dignity; and find an inner stillness and spirituality. We gather as God’s loved people; some in jeans, others more dressed up, with members from many traditions. We fully use the treasures of the Episcopal Church’s Book of Common Prayer (1979) as well as the Book of Occasional Services and The Hymnal 1982.
